![]() ![]() In hindsight, Fallout 3 is a much worse game than I gave it credit for at the time it was released, and I will never stop being angry at Bethesda's lack of passion for and faithfulness to the original Fallout setting.Įdit: The new Wolfenstein games are first-party Bethesda, aren't they? If so, they are the only exception to Bethesda's lack of storytelling capability. What Fallout 3 has going for it is incredibly satisfying exploration that works as the main gameplay loop, and that's what caught most of us by surprise and made us lose dozens of hours in the game despite its many, many flaws. I have yet to see good storytelling in a Bethesda first-party game (no, backstory and setting doesn't count, so those of you who were about to shout "but Morrowind" can put your hands down), and Fallout 3 doesn't change that. Also, super mutants are actually orcs and the Brotherhood of Steel is a knightly order of lawful good paladins because our only exposure to storytelling is through Dungeons & Dragons"). We'll just bring back the story elements that the previous two games resolved and pretend like they weren't resolved after all. ![]() ![]() Fallout 3 is creatively bankrupt ( "let's not invent anything new. ![]()
